SocialEngine Donates 1st Place Prize to Rainmaker API Challenge

We just wanted to post a quick note to let you know that we’re sponsoring Rainmaker and their Developer API Challenge.

They’re looking for more developers to build apps on top of their API that takes contacts from your address book and pumps them with the useful and relevant information that they’re missing. By submitting an app, you’ll have a chance of winning part of a $30,000 prize package that includes $2,500 in cash, an iPad 2 and a SocialEngine license complete with all our plugins!

The Rainmaker Developer API Challenge ends on June 30 so start your hacking!

I took a very close look at this, and I just don't see any use for it. The only input they accept is an email address. Most online profiles such as Facebook don't show the email address to the public, so the data gathered is slim to none. I entered a handful of email addresses and received no data.

Maybe there's something I'm missing, but taking an email address, looking for online profiles, and trying to gather public data is nothing more than a few lines of code.

Hi Tim, this is Bart, Co-Founder and CEO of Rainmaker. Sorry you didn't receive any results back in your API tests. Please email us at and we'll look into it for you!

I agree with Tim too. we had a look into their API and ran some tests, but I couldn't figure out a really useful app for it to develop.

I'll look forward to see the contest results and the ideas people will develop. maybe that can give us a hint.
