v4.1.8 Scheduled for Release

We are excited to release 4.1.8 towards the end of this month! As you may have noticed, we’ve been creating video documentation for our community, and we will continue to add more videos and articles, so leave us feedback on what we should cover.
4.1.8 includes many bug fixes, and we thank you for supporting us with reports. Our bi-monthly releases should really help us stabilize the software.

Here is a list of features that we can expect:

  • New pages in the Layout Editor
  • Minor performance improvements (more to come!)
  • Affiliate branding option
  • MaxCDN pull or an rsync-based implementation of a custom CDN
  • StaticBaseUrl configuration parameter to allow static resources to be served and hosted by MaxCDN’s pull zone or other CDN/file-hosting services.
  • Viglink – To help increase our monetization offerings, we’ve partnered with Viglink – where if one of your users clicks through to a product or service and buys something, you earn a commission.

Please contact us if you have any questions about the release!

I hope one of the bug fixees will include a fix to the blog/polls/photos commenting systems. It's fine if you get four or five comments. But we have threads with over 300 comments and it's insane!

When you click into the page you're shown the last 4 comments. But if you want to see the 5th or 6th last comment you can only do so by going back to the very first page, then scrolling 30 pages (10 at a time) to get to the next to last page! PLEASE FIX THSI!

And the fix should be relatively simple. Just put a PREVIOUS link on that last page so people can click back one or two pages to see the comments that led up to the last page.

Also, when someone posts a comment there, they're taken back to the very first page instead of the last page. Then most of them have to scroll through all 30 pages again, because it's not intuitive for them to figure out to just reload the page to go to the last page.

Oh God please fix the bug with the user levels vanishing from the dropdowns after the last upgrade… It's been really horrible…

I can only keep my fingers crossed for a more stable version. Prior to this current version, there was a lot of anticipation. Words like "awesome and amazing" were used freely. And the result was a disappointment, not unlike the upcoming release of Apple 4S announced two days ago :)

    I have 4 long-standing wishes:

    1) Improve the announcement module to allow future date and time option for it to appear automatically. To be able to publish and unpublish any announcements and in any sequence. Right now I have to manually remove the announcement widget if it gets outdated and if I want to keep it in the system for future reference and/or re-use.

    2) The ability for Manage Members page to shown more than 10 entries at any one time. Imagine if you have thousands of members. How many times do you need to scroll? Unless of course this script is not meant to support that number. Options of showing 10, 50, 100 and even 200 members at one go should be provided. Columns should also be drag-able for proper sizing.

    3) The ability for an account to be suspended or deactivated by the member for whatever reasons instead of outright deletion.

    4) This one tops it all – a much better and intelligent search feature. How is a social media site supposed to function with a primitive search feature as it is?

    Thank you very much.

It should be good if an user comment on a picture that the comment will share on main feed with the picture commented. Only the comment with link at picture is bad….Please

  9. Posted October 6, 2011 at 2:46 am | Permalink

As for the commenting system – the best fix would be to make the comment form visible when a like or comment has been made. The current system is you got to scroll back up to click "comment" to show the comment form. It's quite a pain when there are 100+ comments already and you have to show them all, read all the way down to the bottom for the last one and then go back up to make the comment form appear, then scroll back down again – people don't like "redundant usability" which is the case here. Anyway I hope this could still make it in 4..1.8

its nice to hear the news and i suggest to fix a bug in blogs module…the text in the title gets truncated and when you upload the blog ,the blog title will be incomplete.
    please fix this bug.

suggestion:It would be really good if There are no any page loading when you post something on your wall or even you move from one list to another. Save your members time and traffic using ajax based wall.

The blog links, many pose no _blank (the transition occurs in the same window) how to remove it, you need a convenient opportunity to change the buttons editor. In the group, they are links in a tab without _blank (the transition occurs in the same window)
loses the connection to the network. In the Events and Groups are no additional fields – a very important function. I wrote to you twice already 3. Is there a fix to this 4.18?

  15. Posted October 6, 2011 at 1:04 pm | Permalink

Great! Besides a Twitter and Facebook integration I would also like to see a LinkedIn function.

On my business network the most interaction is with LinkedIn so that would be great.
Also an easy way to run manually added html blocks through the translation would be great.

Would also be great to allow us the opportunity to control and place ads on ALL of our pages. Only a certain amount of pages are customizable, either you can't change the layout or place ads on them where you wish. This is a major shortcoming and one I hope you guys fix.

we cannot use the current 4.17 IPN and 2CO payments because SE is not the only product we sell so entering a fixed return URL in either is not a smart solution. The Return URL should be a variable to be set in admin and is parsed along to the payment gatewat! IMPORTANT!

    best regards,

    1) Allow all SE plugin editable in Layout Editor.
    2) Add Linkedin and google+ to as we have Facebook and Twitter for log-in.
    3) Add Share content Buttons for Facebook like, Twitter twits, linkedin and Google+ button.
    4) if possible think on support with SE4 as its much cheaper CDN Service.($20/mo) then other.

Nice! I can't wait. I could send you a boat load of features, fixes and improvements but I guess I will just include a simply one. I like the weather program that was added to 4.1.7 but there is nothing indicating that members need to place their zip code in the little box to get their weather to show up on the screen. Why can't there be an option from the ADMIN menu that allows a setting to automatically use the zip code from the members profile. I have zip code as a required field. That way the weather comes up when members go to the page.

Or even a more simple fix, how about displaying the words Enter Zip Code on the box :)

Do you have an estimated date for release this new version?

  23. Posted October 7, 2011 at 6:08 am | Permalink

When will an API be released so members on external sites or other devices can publish content back to their profile?

  24. Posted October 7, 2011 at 2:45 pm | Permalink

Well, can't wait too :) SE4 still needs a lot of improvements, but we can live and grow with current features :) And we don't say a word about infamous "speed issue" (is it issue really?), cos we are good with APC-apache-nginx caches and proper server configuration :)

Well, we still have important question for SE team – can you open issue/bugtracker on your site? We, your clients can send not bugs only, but suggestions also and vote for them. It will make SE4 development/roadmap more transparent for customers.

And second question about statistic, please help us with this issue. We have placed Google Analitycs as HTML code in Global Footer and it works well. But we have different values from GA and internal SE4 stats, for example yesterday we had 5000 pageviews in GA but 28000 pageviews in internal stats! How can be so much difference? Maybe internal stat includes all ajax calls, notifications updates and other minor scripts (I hope not)? Can you publish article in KB about proper statistic settings?
Thanks a lot for your efforts, SE4 is great piece of good coding and features, really. We just need some more :)

  29. Anil
    Posted October 8, 2011 at 6:54 am | Permalink

I second Fedor N's request for a bugtracker/ user voice. I can appreciate that the SE team is strapped, so I really don't understand why SE doesn't add a few simple features to their site to allow bugtracker/ uservoice.

Further, a central forum where licensed owners can share tips and tricks would really give a boost to development (unlicensed members can be blocked access or something).

Open things up a little bit, and let your software grow with your users!

All of you who is complaining,… please stop complaining about what is missing, what could it have or not. For this tiny price (yes for real world software development it is tiny price) the software is amazing and has quality base features. If you need anything extra get a DEVELOPER to develop features for you or tweek existing ones to your exact liking. That is how it is done in professional real world !!

having been on the development side of life for more years than I care to admit, I understand why Webligo is reluctant to state a release date. On the other hand, having the lives of so many early adapters in your hands Webligo, I think you really need to announce a release date and stick to it. If half the people on here are like me, they have active projects, with people barking at them from all sides.

Shrugging our collective shoulders saying 'we don't know when that release is coming', just makes we your clients look irresponsible, and you the supplier amateurish.

I love the project, the team and the whole opportunity. As your early adapters, help us advance the project by doing the little things, like release dates, roadmaps, and so on…

    Just sayin'

  39. Posted October 11, 2011 at 9:28 pm | Permalink

We are looking forward to the update as usual here at We have been making multiple mods to the script and we are working on an idea that people said could not be done with Social Engine… we found a way. We now need to get the word out and advertise. We are still beta testing but in a live environment. The Ultimate Sports & Entertainment Social Network is born using the Social Engine Framework.
