Upcoming Feature: Viglink for SocialEngine

This blog is just a short explanation about the upcoming feature for Socialengine version 4.1.8, Viglink, and what it will do for your SocialEngine website.

Viglink is a dynamic ad technology that will transform your links into “affiliate links.”

Here is an example:

You or a user post a link to a product on your wall.

Viglink Post Example

Currently, you are not making any money from that link.

No Commission Viglink

What Viglink will do is automatically tag that link as an affiliate link when clicked.

So if a user purchases a product from a “Viglink link” they clicked on your site, you will be making money from commission.

Earn Commission Viglink

Additionally, you can opt for VigLink to automatically insert new links into your site where you’ve referenced brands, merchants and (coming soon) products, creating additional opportunities for you to get paid.

Maybe you could spend some time on things that matter, like making your platform properly close database connections to use less server resources and be considerably faster.

Isn't this just adding a simple JS in the header?

It's nice, but really server no purpose to the majority of SE I would think as I don't have my users posting links all over the place…

Will it interfere with other type of adversiting on the page, such as banner ads, or will it affect only the links on the wall? I have the Community Ads plugin from SEAddons, so my users would be discouraged from buying ads from me if I'd be, in a sense, stealing their links.

Thank you for the answer before hand.

Is very interesting and all and a great way to monetize our sites and help you guys to profit also some, but we can not monetize our sites if users keep having trouble with the loading speed of SE what do you say you work more in optimizing SE.

PS: Some forums not related to you guys have found a way to make it a little better so its possible you just have to focus a little bit more.

Thanks you for all the hard work and keep it up.

@Sunil Patel – It will be launched with SocialEngine version 4.1.8, so it's not yet available.

@Rob – Yes. You're welcome to implement this feature yourself, but we've completely integrated this into the "Ads" tab for an easier setup.

@Martin – You can enable the feature that lets Viglink transform brands that have been referenced as links – it doesn't need to be a direct link.

@Jazz – It should not effect banner ads. This will only affect links that your users post – meaning in walls, forums, blogs, and etc.

@Daniel and Jan – Better handling in server request is something that SocialEngine is looking to implement in its platform. We definitely have it in our priority list.

@Chris – I'm not totally sure about the policy of Facebook and placing these types of scripts into their platform.

@Mike – This feature should not affect speed.

I still think you guys need to spend some time on the ad campaigns. We need to be able to control the ad on timing, not the campaign itself, like it was in 3.x.. since we cannot link multiple campaigns into one ad spot.. the actual ad needs to expire..

@chris This feature should go live when 4.1.8 releases – which is next week (unless we run into any issues.)

Thank you all for your suggestions – we'll definitely consider implementing them for future versions.
