Hey all. SocialEngine Cloud is now about 2 months old and it’s really starting to take shape! We rolled out some new features and improvements today:
LinkedIn sign-in
Thanks to the awesome people at Singly, LinkedIn login is now available on all SE Cloud sites. Setup is pretty easy – just visit the LinkedIn settings page in your admin panel and follow the instructions there. Once that’s setup, your visitors should see a LinkedIn login option on your site. We haven’t implemented publishing to LinkedIn, but that’s coming soon. We’ll be using Singly to add more login options in the near future. Which do you want to see first?
Lightbox post viewer
If you have a photo-centric site, you may want to let your members casually scroll through your feed and click on items without losing their place. You can now do this by turning on the new lightbox-style post viewer. The Board theme now comes with this turned on by default. If you want to enable this on your site, you can add the “data-gallery-mode” parameter to the Feed widget. Note: If you can’t get it working on your site, you may need to reset your theme – just be sure to download a backup first.
SocialEngine Cloud API
Here’s the big one. We’ve rolled out the first beta version of our SE Cloud REST API. You can find your API key on the “Site Info” area of your admin panel, and the API docs are here. I’d like to reiterate that this is a read-only BETA. It’s very limited – we’ll be adding much more in the coming weeks. I wouldn’t recommend putting a ton of energy into building something for production just yet. The real goal here is to get your feedback on how we can make the API work for you. We are taking a very focused, community-driven approach to developing this API. Comment below with your development ideas and what you think you’ll need from the API to make them happen.

wow look at all the cool sh*t you guys are doing for SE Cloud and all we get is a measly upgrade to overhauls for search and messaging………….whoopy doo!!
Looks like drupal is the way to go sadly….
If we’re not going to develop an external application, It seems like we can only use Javascript to work with the API within SE Cloud! We can’t have PHP codes in SE Cloud. right? so we should host the PHP App in another server and write another API for that App to connect with the SE Cloud.
So Javascript in SE Cloud or External App. is that your approach to use this API?
I guess the API is focused on external applications, not for developing within SE Cloud.
Go for Vbulletin 5 – it’s everything that SEphp is but tons faster and way better…
Its completely BULLSHIT – where all the sites have Fb and other signin a log back – These LAZY GOOZES r now updating it as a big achivements – U lazy socialengine developers-GET A LIFE AND SEE whats happening latestly around the world……huh
I really dont understand….what so wow…….well…its so complicated inspite u putting money—outdated stuff…..huh—bullshit work socialengine is
i bet………vbulletin is far more better than socialengine…..
Hey Alex. Congrats about API!
Any news about accounts for developers?
Looks good so far! But are you planning to add any tools to integrate custom apps with SE Cloud website itself? I’m talking about hooks, any abilities to add controls to native elements (feed, for example), proxies (to be able to create hosted plugin – for example Extended Search – and give it url like mysite.socialengine.com/extended_search instead of se_extended_search.com/mysite) and so on.
API you’ve released is good for integrations but useless in terms of extending SE Cloud website functionality.
We’re receiving requests from our (and your, of course) clients to add some functionality to their website and in most cases it’s not possible at the moment, except on very minor layout customisations. So, I hope, you’ll give us ability to add some features to the SE Cloud soon
$33/month for Social engine.
Is this the same price for ever??
and
will social engine charge in future for addons plugins??? and force us to use plugins they create and not add as a naddons??
PLEASE reply.. DREW(Since your a community manager, I expect some relaible and matured words from you.) or ALEX(I dont expect good thing form you but just trying… )
poor Alex
For anyone having trouble connecting to the API, be sure to check out the API Access section of the documentation: http://www.socialengine.com/support/cloud/api-doc#api-access
congrats on rolling out apis..looking forward for stable version
I hope development of SE Cloud will not slow down SEv4 development progress.
Thank you. This update is completely useless. Nobody wants the data *from* SE. We’re desperate to add in our own data/code.
Congrats! It is great start for SE Cloud API! There still a huge amount of “must have” features for API, like:
– Hooks for various events: user signup, login, deletion, new friendship, joining to an event, group, etc.
– API to manage widgets, menu items, pages
Anyway it is great that you have released API, now just waiting for accounts for developers with option play in sandbox.
Wow – everything we ever asked for in SEphp.
LOL. What development? There is more money for the future in Cloud…
Did someone request vbulletin to see if they could write an importer?
Once they have an importer for SEphp, for $33/month. that;’s not bad.
Zach you are wrong, they provide tons of extra bugs with each SEphp update
BAHAHAHAHAHA…..so true, my bad forgot that not one of the upgraded to the core actually went through smoothly.
What a huge load of crap! Where is SE4’s API! Get ready SE4 peeps, this is just the beginning of the demise of the SE4 platform. I found so many issues with all kinds of core functionality in SE4 and after years of tinkering and testing, they throw attitude or act aloof in their dealings with support issues that they make you pay for and dont respond in time, hence, you continue to pay for horrible support. I am highly disappointed in SE4, years of $$$$ spent on this system. Its a waste of money purchasing SE4 and the cloud system is a joke for the cost.
This is STUPID!
What about SE4 API?
What are you, 3 years old?
Then go there.. what da hell are you doing here?
And for some reason here you are, on the socialengine site.
vbuttiten is good……..DIRTY SE – THE DEVELOPERS ARE UNEDUCATED FOOLS
Why no reply? … why is there no transperacy in information? why always ripping off? the question is very simple.
i would like delet my Test Account, pleas help me
Hi
I am building a web app on MS Azure. What I’d like to do is have the social app be the primary entry point with a login to the Azure server app plus a separate login to an HTML5 client.
Users would have to login to the social site with their credentials and be able to manage their server data by opening the Azure app by passing their credentials through to Azure. Like wise logging in to the HTML5 app would also pass their credential to the client HLML5 app.
Does this scenario sound feasible using your cloud system?
Thanks, Mark.
What about us ?you 1st faithful SEV4 customers why is out product not been improved with the same?
test it
SePHP – Anyone else experiencing the icon just spinning in the activity feed when trying to add photos? 4.2.9 – my users are reporting this.
Ahhh- the html gzip compression messes things up.
For the next SocialEngine PHP update: please fix/finish your work on resource comments. Last update made a mess out of them! If you really want to improve it, copy from facebook (or disqus)
Hi, if someone use the SocialEngine illegally how can we report it?
Hello, I purchased an SEphp license about a month ago. It turns out that I should have read these reviews on SE first.
Now, i noticed many bugs with the Edit links on admin panel. I cannot
edit ANYTHING on my installation as the links dont work. I have reported
this repeatedly to get support from the SE team. Yet, they (Richard
especially) wont provide any help. Instead, it seems they want me to pay
to resolve their bugs. Is this right?? I’m absolutely shocked right now
at the treatment from SE and i’ve sent several emails with screeenshots
only to receive unhelpful responses.
Has anyone faced this
issue before? Please advise on whether i should dump the entire software
and buy the vBulletin license. I’m going to keep on sending the emails
requesting support to SE hoping for a resolution.
Very very disappointed that SE turned out to be such a difficult experience.
I’m here makkkkkkkk because I paid heaps for this crap software and I want some answers from SE about what they intend to do to fix the endless problems people are experiencing with SEphp 4.2.9!!!
try buddypress have been using it for months now after leaving S.E it’s so much more reliable and speed is fantastic
I actually going to try drupal. All the plugins we pay for on here are free there! support is amazing too and its scalable….BOL with buddypress.
Any news on language traslation like spanish?
Is there a reason why the embed videos doesn’t work with Vimeo on Apple Devices (iPad, iPhone, and iPod)
If we manually use embed codes the Vimeo video will show up and play. But
if we upload a video using “Post a Video” it doesnt show at all.
What’s the matter with the Video Plugin?
When are you going to open the PHP demo?! Currently we cannot register!
Social Engine has gone on holidays for 6 months…… you will not get an answer here..! Keep dreaming, take a look at other social networks before you decide to purchase this one.! Looking at all of these post’s and comments etc…… Not one response from social network at all. Shame on you SE4
