New SE Cloud Features & Patches

We are now pushing updates on SE Cloud weekly! We primarily focused on bug fixing and smaller improvements this week:

Improvements

  • Added “Create Account” button to sign-in popup
  • Added “Sign In” button to “Create Account” popup
  • Added Facebook and Twitter share buttons to inline composer (above activity feed)
  • Admin and moderators can now delete comments in activity feeds
  • Added post-preview widget (http://www.socialengine.com/support/cloud/theme-doc#widget-post-preview)
  • Many, many front-end improvements in the new Clean Theme

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed error preventing templates from saving
  • Fixed display errors on liking posts and comments
  • Fixed error preventing imported tweets from being indexed for search
  • Fixed missing avatar and usernames on imported tweets
  • Fixed double email notifications on mentions in comments
  • Fixed status posts not being displayed in digest emails
  • Fixed null description in link posts
  • Fixed alignment issue with the close link in the gallery modal

    Hi Se Team, Thanks for this update. It’s great to see you guys are seriously committed to improve the cloud features. I am really loving the site features so far but there are some basic social features are missing now. It would be nice if you can add few of these feature as priority (for Cloud Board theme),

    1. when member clicks on the post and they don’t have any other relevant posts or boards to see. This is kind of end for the browser. There should be more opinions like pinterest, highlighting other posts from members or similar posts in the board and even the members who liked this. So that this serves as a loop to browse around the site and increase their participation.

    2. hastag feature when member add topics/pictures (they can add tags, select from dropdown)

    3. Improve search function of the SE: current feature is very basic and it doesn’t work for growing communities

    4. Improve SEO Capability: SE cloud websites takes same title and keywords for all the pages. This is killing us in google. Please improve seo feature and image optimization to improve our organic traffic.

    few more to discuss but I can see you guys are planning to release weekly updates. This should solve the most of our problems. You guys are awesome and good luck!

      Very well said there, I keep quiet mostly but I can’t help
      saying how disappointed I am in the turn of events when a year ago I decided to
      take the plunge and move away from a monthly fee at Ning and buy a SE license,
      and this I get a year later?

      I am not rich a student actually and to dig down for those
      few hundred for a license and a few hundred more in plugins is nothing to
      sneeze at.

      I am now so disappointed I am afraid to add any update that
      might be release because if it breaks something it seems there is no support at
      all. The version I have is serviceable so I hope I can keep using it until an
      alternative comes.

      I think it is ludicrous that SE thinks by ignoring the PHP
      we will give up and buy cloud but after this treatment who would even consider
      it. It seems I keep getting spam encouraging me about Cloud, well sorry I am a
      PHP user not a cloud and I am not interested if I am going to pay monthly I will
      move back to Ning.

    What is happen about all the bugs and browser compatibility issues in SEPHP 4.2.9p1 and Albums 4.2.8?
    Hope that 4.3 will address this or it’s off to PHPFox for me!!!!!

    Soo disappointed with this company, I have been using SE PHP for years and 4.2.9p1 really screwed up my site… there doesn’t seem to be any interest in fixing these issues and I cannot get them to answer my requests. How can they not realise how damaging this is to their reputation, I would personally not invest any money in using their cloud service after this negative experience… I mean what’s next, will they drop their cloud customers when the next piece of hot technology comes out?

      thanks for the support guys… I keep checking this blog on a daily basis to see if there are any news on the bug fixes we all seem to need. I am loosing hope however and will need to find an SE/php developer soon to sort out the issues loading my site since I installed 4.2.9p1

    I saw a new Media section in the template files editing section and a Styelsheet. I tried to move my custom styles from Custom CSS section into this new one but the styles didn’t load. I couldn’t find an example in the demo admin too. any docs on how to use this new stylesheet ?

    Just give it up guys, SE PHP has been declared DEAD! There is no enthusiasm for any changes, bug fixes, replies or whatsoever for SE PHP. All we can do now is move away from Social Engine, move to Cloud or keep hoping for better days.

    Hope is always better then no hope, but false hope is the worst of any kind, it literally destroys relationships, people and businesses. We have been fed false hope for a long time now and I’m fed up with it. I went from excitement to disappointment, from disappointment to hope back and fort. From hope to disbelieve, from disbelieve to anger and almost from anger to hate! I don’t like to be played around or ignored like this,

    I can be a real mean person if I get to this level of anger, almost to the extent that I want to destroy something not physically but verbally. Trust me you don’t want me in that state near your business because I will do anything in my power to get my vengeance, by spreading bad reviews all over the place like a maniac, and believe me I’ve got the power.

    Then what happens is all the other unhappy clients out here start to do the same, just copy and past it’s that simple, and in the end we destroy not only Social Engine, we also destroy the hard working 3rd party developers businesses who still had hope, and we also kill our own businesses and why? Because some person thought he had a better idea of handling things, by not handling anything anymore! AAAArrrghh I just needed to get this out!

    You guys F’d up social engine due to poor management and pride and I assume cloud will be going down the tubes as well. Personally, you guys have cost me a once in a lifetime marriage and eight million families their lives. Alex and Charlotte its time to get your heads out of your asses and start managing the company you started. As of right now, rd party developers are the only thing you guys have keeping your kiddie office afloat. Take a week off to think, regroup and stategize, and think about all the families that you guys are or could be impacting. I know you remember me Alex and so far you and Charlotte have financially devastated eight million families including my own. THINK!

    If you are a specialized Social Engine PHP developer, you already maintain your version of Social Engine PHP and you are interested in the idea to share a closed repository to start a parallel development, please let me know. I am surely going to wait the final answer from SE guys, but I want to get ready, the idea could work.

    There are a lot of improvements for SocialEngine Cloud, yet a lot of your clients just have SocialEngine. In as much as you make effort to improve the Cloud Platform could you please delegate some improvements to SocialEngine because this is the platform that has raised your flag high.

    I’m almost feeling as if social engine was a bad start from the beginning. The crazy part is customers like us is what keep them in business. Instead of coming out with new clouds and so forth fix the existing issues. The cloud shouldn’t be any extra charge for customers that are paying for bugs that still haven’t been fixed. Really Social Engine, this doesn’t make us feel good. Why would we want to spend more money and what we have doesn’t even work? And then your customer service is wack. It take you all whole week to respond back to an email. Then the responses are short and brief. I understand Socialengine can’t please every paying customer but its important that you try. Tell your customer whats going on. Let us know you are concerned and do care by helping us.
