Performance Improvements

We know performance is an absolute priority for some of you so we’ve done our best to identify and improve on the bottlenecks we’ve found without creating any compatibility issues for third-party addons. Some of you should see page load speed improvements with SE PHP 4.5, depending on your server config, resource limits and usage levels. We’ll continue to focus on performance improvements with our next SE PHP release. Remember – if you’re having speed issues, please be sure that your site is in Production Mode (you can enable it from your admin panel homepage).

Let us know what you think about SE PHP 4.5. Happy community building!

Just a quick note: The “Twitter OAuth now uses SSL” was not fixed. We still had to use the patch in order for it to work correctly. If anyone needs it you can get it here courtesy of Jung at socialengine developer…

    Hi All,

I encountered a problem during the upgrade, a permission issue indicating that a .htaccess is not writable, see below image. I put many .htaccess files writable, but nothing works and I do not exactly where it is.

    Let me know the solution.

    Have a great week-end.

This sounds like a permissions issue. Make sure your FTP user has the ability to overwrite that file.

xmt.pl is correct! Themes are not part of the upgrade procedure as it could accidentally overwrite changes.

@freydrew:disqus Nice to hear this Drew. It makes us proud to be part of the SE fraternity as we build and improve to serve our communities. They deserve amazing services and which SE team is striving to offer. While I encourage your efforts about the up and coming API, please I want to also take this chance to encourage your work on the “Crowdsourced Languages Tool” so our community members can help us with the crowdsourced translations of the sites. Much thnx Drew, Alex and Team, and thumbs and feets up.

When you explore on the API, allow me to also add that you please consider the “Crowdsourced Language Translation” tool/feature for the next upgrade so that members can can help us with the translations into their different local languages. This will also be a huge boost to helping grow our communities. Thnx again.

Hello, i´m glad to see the continues developing of SE PHP. I have an recommendation. You think a lot about the progression and the development of other features. But many more times you should think about the improvement of existing features and modules. How e.g. the create of templates. So we have the same techniques like wordpress, joomla and co. For templating and Modul/Widget Positions and Variations. I think it give a alot of Plugins for SE PHP for each one and each community. for founders of communities, it is not important to have many features. Meaningful and individuality is important. That makes, among other things, the designs. Please think about a technique how we can make better templates and positions of Widgets.

My site has grown to the point of not working on a single web server I am now in the process of setting up a master/slave server and a 4-node web cluster. It would be nice if you added support for multiple databases. I have been working with ZF to see how this can be accomplished but I keep hitting dead ends.
