SocialEngine PHP 4.6 Released – More improvements and bug fixes

Hello SE PHP community builders! We’ve just released SE PHP 4.6, which includes a whole slew of improvements and bug fixes. The release includes all of the items I wrote about on June 11, plus some other minor improvements and fixes. If you’re already a SocialEngine customer, you can download the release from your client dashboard. If you’re still thinking about trying SE PHP, you can order your license here.

Let us know what you think about the release, and thanks again for helping us make SocialEngine PHP a better platform for building online communities. We’ll be updating this blog in the next few weeks with more future plans for SE PHP – but comment with your ideas below!

It’s really re-assuring to see you working on SE core features. I’ve suggested this in past – it will be nice to have a bug tracking system, where people (or selected developers and clients) can submit issues and even fixes.

I have just completed the upgrade one of the issues I am experiencing is with FieldBirthdate.php – we used to be able to put in $label = $age; which would show the users age and not the actual date. Now it doesnt work. Any suggestions?

What I would like to see:

    1. Speed)) I noticed Announcements don’t use cache, maybe there is more places to get more speed.
    2. Option to remove “Member Type” from user page and timezone and locale from settings/signup.
    3. In settings/Privacy there is a text “_ACTIVITY_ACTIONTYPE_SHARE”
    4. For tab container for blocks that use resources make it load stuff using AJAX, many people will not even go through tabs so no point loading it with the page.
    5. Option to have updates marked as read when user clicks on “Updates”.
    6. Have photos open in a pop up window similar to Facebook, could make it faster, use AJAX, load next photos in background.
    7. Last one is chat, I doubt you will change it but still, it’s probably taking the most resources, and it’s still slow, when user selects offline he can still get messages. Maybe you could try to develop a daemon for a chat or use somebody elses, it would speed everything up.

Thats probably it for now, would be cool if you cold add some of my ideas to your plans.

When will you guys revamp the members page to work a bit better such as adding some random widgets, new members, etc out of the box. I like features, but adding constant addons slows down the core…

Question. What are you doing to get SE4 faster, just like PHPFOX? I tried out the demo, and even with all the modules, it puts SE4 speed to shame!

    I’m using
your product since 2009, and I must say it’s really a piece of art.

Although some features can easily get a little upgrade, to give every user more
    freedom on their website.

    I’m talking
about the standard plugins from SE,

    If you look
at the profile plugin you see a grown mature plugin that every admin can adjust
just the way they like it.

    Therefore I
am concerned that a few plugins only has basic scripting and lack the ability to
be modified personally by the admin itself.

    A CMS is meant
to be a provider for admins to personalize every plugin as much as possible.

    The Events

    If you look
at the event plugin, you see that there is not much you can customize, of
course, you can swap the boxes from side to side, but that doesn’t really make
    it personal.

    Just like
the info of the profile it would be way better for users to add custom fields
like, checkboxes, text fields etc… just like how the user profile info widget

    If you
program that the exact way like you do with the profiles, users can make it
search advanced like you search the users and so on.

    This would
also work for the group plugin.

    The user

    When users
login into a website, what do they want? The easier the better.

If a new user come’s to join the community they have no clue how to upload they
own blogs, albums, music, etc… That is freaking annoying

    So what my
suggestion is, is that when a user is visiting his own profile who didn’t
upload any picture’s, seeing the plugin tab anyway to upload a picture or some
music, because the only way how they can accomplish that is by clicking on the
menu above where all the photo’s globally are, that doesn’t make sense to a
person and what if I want to remove the albums menu? Then people have to search
    deeper to upload their photos

    Tip: When
you click on a profile pictures when you are on the users profile it would be
better if you navigate to that photo

    Bug found:
When a new user chooses to upload a profile picture before registering it doesn’t
    show in their album.

    I hope you understand
what I mean to give people more freedom to adjust their SE the way their want without
having to know a high knowledge of PHP or enough money to hire somebody.

    Thank you,
